There are many successful businesses around the world that have been functioning for decades. These business built a strong foundation in the physical world through various means and have reaped the rewards of their positive decisions. As the Internet becomes a more widely used medium for various activities such as finding information, watching videos, and shopping; it is becoming more of an importance from a business stand point. As a result of this, the many successful business that have been operating for decades are now having to turn their attention towards developing an online division in order to get their piece of this digital pie. We have witnessed several companies pop up in the virtual world with websites like http://www.direct.tv and many others.

The Internet is a vast marketplace with millions of potential customers skimming web sites on a daily basis. As companies begin shifting their focus to the online world, they are having to adapt to the various Internet marketing guidelines that are somewhat different than the traditional marketing via television and radio that they have become dependent on over the years. Making the shift to the Internet is only a small hurdle for most established businesses, as they can bring in professionals and consultants to ensure the transition period is smooth and steady. Upon getting established, they have access to a massive array of potential customers and a whole new pool of marketing opportunity to ensure their web site flourishes.

In conjunction with established businesses moving their affairs online, there are many entrepreneurial opportunities available online. Over the past decade, more private businesses have popped up online than have in the past. The main reason why the Internet is such a friendly medium in which people can start their own business is due to the fact that it removes a great deal of overhead that is commonly associated with having a brick and mortar showroom or headquarters. Someone with a good business idea can theoretically just jump online, go through the small hoops of obtaining a domain name and throw up a web site. Due to this fact, the Internet business sector will continue to grow and flourish for years to come, turning into a vast marketplace of goods and services.

There are many instances when a small business should take steps to upgrade the computer system running their operation. No matter if you have a small or a large business, it is often better to upgrade your system than it is not to. However, it is a good idea to invest some time in knowing what you are upgrading so you do not waste your money.

What Can Upgrading Do?

There are numerous things that upgrading to a new operating system can do for your business. However, it is a good idea to invest the time into finding the right system and ensuring that you are making wise financial decisions. Consider the following.

Will improving the computer operating system you have enhance the productivity and efficiency of your business? What is the key benefit to upgrading? If you are not sure, it may not be a good move.

Is cloud computing an option? This allows you to manage your systems through the Internet. It also allows you to have control of your business over any location, even when you need to be on the other side of the world.

For many business owners, moving to VoIP can be a good move. This technology can lower your costs and improve efficiency.

For those who are spending the money to upgrade, ensure you are upgrading to the best possible product out there. You will find numerous options to select from depending on your specific computer needs. However, it is a good idea to know what your options are.

Offset against its low cost to the user, the Internet repays one’s investment ten-fold. Quite apart from the free software that can be downloaded entirely legitimately, there’s the ease of keeping in touch with acquaintances via emails and social networking. Shopping and entertainment are oftentimes more cost-effective when using the Internet. Even if you’re only interested in accessing news, weather and local websites, a computer and Internet access are two indispensable tools.

With the Internet, users can browse libraries of documents on every topic, watch videos, listen to music, catch up on TV programs and find discount vouchers for everything from meals in restaurants to online gambling. The casino bonus is just one of a host of such promotions.

When it comes to deciding which operating system to install on your computer, the usual choice is a proprietary system, such as Windows. The other option, open source, is also attractive. More and more users are selecting Linux. One of the perceived benefits is greater security, and critical alerts are found to be less frequent; users claim there are fewer invasions by viruses.

By far the biggest advantage is in financial savings. Depending on which distributor you choose, Linux is either totally free or really cheap. The main commercial OS’s are costly to acquire; costs escalate when upgrading to the latest versions of the essential software. Equally, users may purchase and install their single copy of the software on just one computer. Linux brings with it the big plus that there’s no limit to the number of separate machines on which the purchaser may run this OS.

Personal computers are a relatively new advancement in technology. Computers were not commonplace a few decades ago, and a time when the Internet was not around (at least not for any personal, practical purposes) is still a recent memory for many people. Even in the 90′s, many families did not have computers, many more did not have the Internet, and very few people had anything to enhance a computer, such as back-up storage and memory upgrades. Computers have advanced quickly, and now there are many things you can do to improve your computer.

Many people only use a computer to get on the Internet and play Solitaire. Other people spend 10 hours a day in front of a computer. Whether you use a computer once a day or all day, there are a few basic investments you should consider that can save you time, money, and energy.

The first of these investments is an external hard drive to backup the information on your computer and to free more memory on your hard drive. External hard drives generally run between $60-150, depending on the size; however, they can work wonders speeding up an overloaded computer and can save you a lot of hair-pulling if you need to restore your system.

Another smart investment is a memory upgrade. This can speed up a slow computer in a pinch. Memory upgrades have a big price range ($60-600) depending on the size of the upgrade, but are generally worth it.

There are many ways to improve the computer you have. A walk through a computer store will give you a dozen ideas.

There are many people that wanted to become richer by taking into account, methods, and procedures that are getting hot for businesses and online merchants everywhere. This is the reason why there are much SEO companies these days that appear out of nowhere, taking a shot to see if their way of handling search engine data will benefit them and the clients they handle. A Google SEO blog has not just been created to address the needs of those who like to know more details on how search engines work, but it also shares advice to those who have the interest in pursuing this kind of business.

In fact, knowing that Google has been one of the most popular search engines out there is more than enough assurance that information they share can be trusted and relied on. Though there are those who claim that they have understood how Google operates, references coming from a Google SEO blog is more trustworthy than anything else is. There is no information coming from this kind of blog that tends to mislead or confuse its readers, but share only the most accurate data that can benefit anyone who reads it. They give advises that work, for the betterment of their company also.

Why would anyone pay big bucks for a television spot to advertise something when they could post the same information on their website, or alert their customer base that specials are happening via a Facebook post?

It’s an interesting question?

In these challenging economic times, companies are looking for ways to cut back on their bottom line. For many, the internet has been the tool that allows them to post quality information to an interested customer base without spending money on expensive advertising.

Many talk-radio programs and sports franchises have created Facebook pages for their businesses. These businesses encourage their fans to follow them on the internet, and these consumers are alerted when an advertising special comes along. Two for one tickets, no problem. The indoor football franchise simply posts that information on their Facebook page. The baking franchise that has thousands of followers online simply updates their internet information, and suddenly thousands of consumers are aware that a new brand of chocolate soufflé is now for sale.

The internet has become the world’s vehicle to share information on a global stage. As companies struggle to compete in a global market, the amount of information being ramped up for advertising purposes is mind boggling.

Looking for the perfect wedding dress? Why spend hours shopping at bridal boutiques when you can peruse hundreds of dresses in a few minutes on the internet.

Television, radio and especially newspapers are feeling the advertising squeeze from the internet. As more and more people become internet savvy, the rules of advertising are likely to change in rapid intervals.

In this day and age with easy access to the worldwide web as close as your local library, the internet is your connection to your interest, hobbies and social circles. The array of special interest networks, information sites, blogs and tweets is nearly endless. Everyone can find something they love.

Following Blogs that focus on topics of interest can be a great way to learn more about a specific topic and get connected to others with the same interest. If it becomes inconvenient to check multiple blogs every day, you can use an RSS feed to do if for you. An RSS feed like FastLadder checks blogs for you and makes them available in one location. Shortcut keys make it easy to scan headlines and move on to the next article.

Twitter is an internet-based tool that can help you get connected to like-minded people talking about the things that interest you. Using “tweets” of no more than 140 characters, individuals around the world can have real time discussions about world events, local politics, and specialized hobby. You can follow just a few or many thousands of people talking about the subjects that interest you. This is also a good way to learn more about blogs you might want to follow.

Facebook is another tool to get connected. This social networking site lets you connect with individuals who share your interests. You can also “like” business or organizations who represent your hobbies or personal interest.

Through these and other internet-based tools, everyone can stay connected to an old passion or take on a new one.

Before you invest any of your money, you should take the proper steps to insure your cash. For instance, you should first take the time to consult with a professional who has specifically dealt with online casino endeavors. In addition to advising you about money, an experienced consultant can help you research the company you want to use as an investment.

Here are a few of the top things you should look for in a virtual casino:

Is the company popular? There is no point in investing money in any type of business that is not popular with consumers. A good online casino should have a consistent flow of visitors.

Is the website easy to navigate? Because the business is primarily conducted online, you will want to ensure that any casino you are looking at investing in has an attractive site layout that won’t turn visitors away.

Can people play from their computers? This point may seem like a no-brainer, but a casino that conducts business online should make it easy for all visitors to play the games from their computers.

Once you do all the proper research, you can then take the steps to invest in the business. If the casino fits all the above criteria, then you might make a good return on your money.

Laptops computers are the dominant choice among students and business people. The reason is simple and obvious – laptops are portable. However, specs, screen size and weight are the determining factors in selecting a laptop. Both options – laptop and desktop – have advantages and disadvantages.

Because desktops are larger they have more interior space for expansion, upgrading and easy repair. They are typically 20-30 percent faster and perform better than their laptop counterparts. Unfortunately, they are bulky and not easily moved. Desktop computers have disadvantages, too. They are bulky and take up space. The wires and cables connecting the various computer components also poses a problem. Desktops also require more electrical power to operate.

While generally more expensive, laptop computers have the distinct advantage of portability. They are lightweight and easy to carry anywhere. A well designed laptop has enough ports to perform all of the functions of a desktop. It is the perfect computing tool for students and travelers who need constant access to a computer. Laptops also have a battery that can last up to five hours on a high end model.

Like the desktop, a laptop has its own disadvantages. Because of the compact design, laptops are difficult to upgrade, expand and repair. Configuration capability is often limited by the manufacturer. Laptop security is another issue. Because laptops are portable, they are easy to steal.

Price is another consideration. Laptops are typically more expensive than a comparably equipped desktop. One alternative is a “desktop replacement” laptop. This is a laptop with the full capabilities of a desktop. It is larger, heavier and has more powerful components plus an 18″ or larger screen. A docking station creates a workable compromise.

Computer users have definite preferences when choosing between Apple and PC computers. However, the differences come down to a matter of loyalty, exposure and how users use their computers. The other surprise is that some users are comfortable with either computer system.

Statistically, PCs account for a 95 percent share of the market while Apple’s Macs carry the remaining five percent. The major reason for such a significant difference is Microsoft Windows. New PCs come with Windows 7 pre-installed, although Windows XP still accounts for 65 percent of all Windows based PCs. Windows users tout the availability of a wide range of hardware and software as the reason for their choice of operating systems.

Cost is another factor. Desktop PC prices vary from as low as $400 to over $1000 while Mac desktops prices are typically $1,100, minimum. Objective computer experts are quick to point out that Macs are built with higher quality components and are considered to be high end computers.

The biggest difference between between Mac and PC computers is the operating systems. PCs typically use the Windows operating system platform because it is compatible with so many software and hardware applications. The downside is that Windows is prone to speed and program accessing problems because computer manufacturers load their PCs with additional software. Windows is also the favored target of hackers and cyber criminals.

The Mac’s current operating system is OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. OS X has always been considered more intuitive, faster and easier to use than Windows. Mac’s OS also does not support blue ray and other programs – it is a frills free operating system. However, there is an OS version of Microsoft Office. As for viruses, OS X 10.6 is just as vulnerable to viruses as Windows. There are simply more PCs for hackers to prey on.

Deciding is simple – it’s a matter of personal preference.

When people think of the computer’s benefits to society, they are quick to point out that computers have revolutionized worldwide communications, made businesses more efficient and created a multitude of new career paths. All of this is true. Businesses not only operate more efficiently because of the computer’s ability to make complex administrative tasks simpler, they also bring businesses with offices all over the world together in real time through the power of the Internet. This level of coordination and productivity was unheard of 20 years ago.

As computer hardware and software advances proliferate, the will be an ongoing need for highly trained computer science people in all areas of society. Programs constantly evolve and at the same time, cyber criminals are constantly searching for and finding more sophisticated ways to infiltrate corporate and government computer systems. Computer and information security have become an important and growing career fields.

One of the seldom mentioned industies in which computers have had a major impact is the automobile industry. The days of the tune-up are gone because since the 80s, most car engines are computer controlled. Automobile computers control engine efficiency, air bags and brakes, and monitor tire pressure. The GPS systems that come installed in many car models are computer controlled.

One of the fastest growth areas for computers has been e-commerce. Through the Internet, businesses and retailers can advertise products, clothing ans services online. Consumers, in turn, can find items that want to buy – often had very competative prices – and purchase them online. There are a large number of companies that conduct 100 percent of their business through the Internet.

We are just beginning to see the tip of the computer’s impact on soceity.

Consider what was required to write using a typewriter against writing the same document using a computer. There is clearly no comparison to the benefits that computers provide. Computers have improved efficiency, communications and creativity in offices, classrooms and a multitude of work settings around the world.

Offices have benefited from the computer’s powerful tools and can produce professional documents up to book size in a fraction of the time that was needed 20 years ago and do it all right in the office. Documents can be printed in color, with graphics and tables, copied and put together in an almost seamless operation from one computer. When prepared, the documents can be emailed or faxed anywhere in the world – from the same computer.

Computers are revolutionizing education by bringing the world into the classroom. With smart technology and a large screen a teacher can present any subject in creative new ways that visually stimulate learning through a laptop computer. Students can literally be connected to the world and curriculum can be designed to make it happen. From a lesson on geography with interactive maps and photos to studying complex mathematics and science, computers are helping teachers do a better job of educating students.

In almost any work setting, computers can improve productivity, make jobs more efficient and teach employees a new aspect of their job. Almost any work environment or operation can be automated to integrate all of the functions performed in a building – from beginning to finished product.

Computers are on the forefront of reinventing how students are taught from kindergarten through 12th grade and on into college. The advances in computer technology are exciting and hold great promise for helping to improve how students are taught and learn.

The initial intent for using computers in education was to give as many students as possible access to a computer. Many school systems invested heavily in purchasing computers (laptop and esk models) for students to use. This “one-to-onw” approach to integrating computers into classroom curriculum. As of 2006, 25 percent of school districts nationwide and school systems in nine states had invested in this individual computers with mixed results. The most positive result was a marked inprovement in test scores. In most cases it was determined that computers are best utilized by students in a supervised environment.

Other studies have drawn supporting conclusions. Students gain invaluable word processing skills and are often able to use computers to complete reports by the age of 8. Students also recognize the need to collaborate on projects and other assignments at an earlier age. The use of computers has led to the emergence of student leaders who are willing and able to help slower learning students. As important as any conclusion is the fact that young minds have a built in natural form of discovery that is enhanced by computers and that they benefit from the trial and error learning that comes with exploring on the computer.

The latest innovation in education is the computer integrated classroom LCD projector. Teachers can design curriculum and lessons to incorporate use of the Internet to immediately answer questions and present visual lessons that are more interesting. More complex subjects like math and sciences can be taught using animation to break down steps and make processes easier to understand.

The inception of the iPhone and the touch screen technology is portrayed changed the way we look at mobile devices forever. People were, and still are, captivated by the touch-screen technology that various Apple products exhibit. As the iPhone quickly grew in popularity, Apple released a new, and seemingly larger version of the iPhone; only it could not be utilized as a phone. This product was known as the iPad, and helped revolutionize the way in which people view mobile computers such as laptops and other types of mobile personal computers.

The iPad runs the widely acclaimed Apple iOS that exhibits extremely simple navigation and a user friendly graphical interface. As the iPad began moving more into the mainstream, other mobile phone companies began releasing their own version of touch screen phones. While in fact these phones were nowhere near the technology and prestige of the iPhone, it was becoming prevalent the technology was growing, and moving from just one sector to many. In conjunction with these newly released phones, the Android operating system was released to run on the competing smartphones of the Apple iOS mobile devices. The Android operating system helped pave the way for higher end smartphones and eventually competing tablet computers.

Currently, there are a few different brands of tablet computers, the main one still being iPad, with competitors based around Android. These tablet computers are drastically becoming the wave of the future in terms of how mobile computers are utilized. Apple is in the works of producing the iPad 2, while other manufacturers are still releasing their initial tablet; consumers are going to be faced with a barrage of choices. Perhaps even these innovative touchscreen computers will eventually replace laptops?

The Internet is a viable pass-time for millions of people on a daily basis. Whether they are jumping online via their favorite mobile device to look up a quick bit of information regarding a conversation they are having with someone, or they are building their own online business; the Internet has become a staple in our culture and modern society. Over the past few decades, the number of computers within households has grown drastically, and the number of people connected to the Internet has grown even more. Additionally, with the inception of wireless capabilities and Internet ready mobile devices, more people are jumping online than ever before.

This is extremely important to businesses who are looking to expand and survive the future. In a sense, the Internet is the future, and more people are becoming prone to doing their shopping via the computer through online retailers then jumping into their cars and rolling down to the nearest brick and mortar facility. As a result of this fact, more businesses are moving areas of their company into the online world, or completely making the transition from the physical world to online in order to take advantage of this untapped source of potential endless profits.

The Internet poses a virtually unlimited amount of digital real-estate in which businesses can claim based off various keywords in which they want customers to find them through. Additionally, it is easier to portray entire inventories online than in physical stores in which a customer might have to be referred to a different store for a particular item. Consumers like the fact they can simply pop online, navigate easily through a retail site and find the product they want for purchase. This generalized concept has drastically become more prevalent over the past five years, and is continuing to be so.

FileZilla is one of the most popular programs that are available to people at the moment. The best thing about this program is that it is completely free and can easily be used by almost anyone. Unlike other commercial file sharing programs, FileZilla provides maximum functionality and security to users without any charges in return. This is because FileZilla was created by a group of computer programmers around the globe, and its open source coding is available for every programmer to read. This has allowed people to fix a lot of bugs and to enhance the software’s core functions.

There are a lot of advantages of using the FileZilla server. With the help of this program, you can easily download your files much faster than the speeds you would get on a standard connection. This is because transfers on FileZilla are regulated in a much faster and a securer way, allowing for faster connectivity and quicker download speeds. Furthermore, unlike other FTP platforms, FileZilla has a very powerful security system that protects its users from unwanted hackers or viruses that might infect your system.

Because it has such powerful security software and the fact that it is totally free, FileZilla has gained a lot of popularity and it can now easily be downloaded in various different languages. The FileZilla server contains a vast variety of files and programs available for download, because the number of users who share programs are very high, making it a small community for downloaders.

As with most pieces of technology, from the inception of a specific product, the amount of people utilizing that product only grows. This fact remains true with cell phones, and of course computers. A couple decades ago, it was rare to find a residential household that had a computer let alone access to the Internet. However, twenty years later, vast amounts of people own computers and connect to the Internet on a daily basis. Each day, thousands of people who have never accessed a computer take the plunge for the first time, whether at work or with a newly purchased private computer. This is by no means a bad thing, as it will allow online businesses to continue booming for decades to come with the projected consistent growth. However, with these potential economic opportunities comes an equal amount of cyber crime.

The single most prevalent problem with a growing number of residential computers is the large consumer base who connects to the internet unaware of the potential dangers that exist in the online world. These problems are far different than the threats that exist in the real world, and are difficult to detect, specifically for novice users. As a result of this, cyber crime is drastically increasing, with new viruses being released on a daily basis to infect unsuspecting computers utilizing underhanded yet innovative tactics. These viruses and scams lead to new widespread crime epidemics, particularly identity theft.

Identity theft is a growing problem, with an increase in cases annually. These cases result typically from email phishing scams that pose as a viable entity in order to obtain the information of an unsuspecting individual. Additionally, there are viruses that are floating around that while infecting a computer, can transmit specific user information, credentials, and private information to the developer of the virus. All of these problems persist due lack of first time user education as well as new tactics that are employed by malicious entities looking to make money through theft of identity and or spamming advertisements.

It happens every time a new operating system comes out for Windows. A new operating system is a big deal for both the business world and the consumer world. The new and improved system is better but the old one is still going strong. It can be difficult on deciding whether to wait or grab the latest and greatest when it first comes out. But waiting for a few weeks or months can be beneficial to you. It can save you money and give you an insight into any potential problems. If your serious, it can also give you time to learn about the new setups before you make any purchase.

It also entails a lot of work and some unforeseen problems with capability. So when a new operating system hits the shelves, it is hard to gauge exactly how much work is involved with transferring over your data. Furthermore, a few weeks will give you the time to figure out how to smoothly transition. This is because shortly afterward, eager testers will be posting guides and information on how well the transition worked for them. A few weeks will help work out any capability errors since the company will be focused on fixing problems as soon as they appear.

Another advantage to waiting a few weeks is that the high prices that usually accompany a new system will drop a bit. By this time, you can usually catch a sale. Floor salesmen are also more knowledgeable about the product and its operations. So, you can capture real information and not something read on a little tag. However, you still might need tech support.

Finally, waiting a few weeks will help you determine if you really need the new system upgrade. Many businesses are very slow to upgrade their systems. As a result, the old operating system is the workable one and a new one becomes more of a play toy than a work computer.

The amount of people who are coming under computer ownership is growing at an increasing rate. A few decades ago, virtually nobody owned a computer or had access to the internet — today, thousands of people connect to the internet on a daily basis and explore the world wide web for the first time. Much of this surfing, while mobile devices are beginning to take a chunk of the access, are still done via a personal computer at home or at the office. In order for a computer to run, it needs to employ the services of an operating system. The operating system as the name states, operates the computer and provides the user with a navigable user interface in which they can perform specific tasks or activities. These operating systems may seem someone simplistic to the user who is surfing the internet via the computer in which the OS is running, however, behind the scenes, these intricate programs are doing thousands of different things at once.

As with anything that is intricate and complicated in its overall function, the operating system needs occasional patches to ensure it runs to the required standards and specifications. These patches are implemented via regular updates by the developer of the operating system. The importance of these updates is vital to the efficiency and security of the machine that the operating system is running on. If the system is not updated accordingly, the minor bugs the patch is fixing could turn into large scale problems overtime. Additionally, many released updates also include security patches that keep the security of the operating system updated to combat the latest threats. Clearly, a system whose user neglected to update the operating system over the course of multiple released patches is much more susceptible to attacks and potential problems over a system that has been adequately updated.

Patching an operating system is simple and painless. Most operating systems send out a notification when an update is available, and even the option to automatically download and install new updates via a checked option.

As our culture pushes further into becoming a technologically based modern society, more people will become owners of computers and get connected to the internet. Over the past decade alone, the amount of people who own a computer has grown drastically, and each year the numbers rise on a seemingly exponential basis. However, despite the rapid growth, more households are without computers and internet access than households that are. As a result of this, there are still large amounts of growth to be had, which also means there will be many more people who are unfamiliar with the computer and how to navigate around one. One of the most important aspects of general computer navigation is the operating system; the system that runs the computer and provides a means of navigating and accessing specific aspects within the computer.

Operating systems are generally the first impression that people have with their new system, particularly those who are not familiar with the computer and the various specifications that make one computer model more powerful over other models. Popular operating systems such as the Microsoft Windows operating systems are popular for many very important reasons, one of which is the fact they utilize graphical based user interfaces. A graphics based user interfaces uses graphics to designate specific areas of the computer that people can access. When a new computer is started, the buyer is faced with a desk top full of engaging graphics that are straight forward in their navigation and uses. This concept is extremely important for people who are unfamiliar with computers and need a bit of visual aid in their navigation.

The graphical based user interface on operating systems is by far the most popular. The friendly user interface and navigation makes it easy for people of all levels of computer intelligence to have an equally rewarding experience while operating on the machine. Operating systems are ever-changing, becoming more user friendly and efficient in the overall user experience; as such, it has never been a better time to begin learning about the computer.

What makes Windows 7 so great is what the programmers did and what they didn’t do when developing this system. The first thing they did was actually listen to the consumers who bought the Windows Vista. They learned what was wrong with Windows Vista, why consumers preferred Windows XP, and what consumers wanted in a new operating system. By listening instead of developing, they created a new version of Windows that easily adapted to but sleeker and with some new and improved features.

From Windows Vista, the developers learned a lot. The Windows Vista was a type of failure. It worked but the customers just didn’t like it. The developers learned some important lessons from Windows Vista so it wasn’t a complete failure. Some of the lessons they learned were very valuable from a marketing perspective. They learned that an overloaded system ran slowly. They learned that many of the features they thought were great just didn’t work for the average user. They learned that consumers preferred speed above everything else. In a core, they learned simple was better.

But the influence of Windows 7 didn’t just come from Windows Vista, people actually liked Windows XP. The developers took much of worked for Windows XP and transported it to the Windows 7 platform. They did sleek up some of the features such as the automatic detection of drivers for plug and play. They did make some things simpler but updated much of the design and graphics. They also compressed the operating system of Windows 7 so that it took up less space.

What makes Windows 7 so great is that the developers actually listened to the consumers. They found out what they wanted and what they didn’t want. They discovered it was all about the speed vice the features. Hopefully, these past lessons will be passed on to future Windows operating systems.

The Netbook has hit the computer world by storm. This has taken some of the sales away from laptops and powers. They have one very big and important purpose. But it is this purpose that Netbook was designed for. It was designed solely for surfing on the internet while on the move. It has two very distinctive features that has attracted many buyers to purchasing the Netbook.

One of the most attractive features of the Netbook is the price. For under $500 even with the bigger screen, the Netbook is cheaper than your average laptop. The lower price can be attributed to the lack of some of the features such as a DVD player. However, an external drive can easily be hooked up to the Netbook. For those looking for a cheap alternative to just get on the internet, this is definitely a good option. The internet is probably used way more than a DVD burner.

The small size is a big advantage when it comes to taking trips and still needing something that can access the net while travelling. Because it is so small, it is also very light weight and that eliminates the need to carry a huge, heavy briefcase around. It also can fit inside purses and takes up very little room in packed bags. Just be sure to pack the power cord with it. The small size might be a deterrent for some buyers who might find the small screen size a little too small for their tastes.

There is no doubt about the convenience of a Netbook. Its small price, small size, and light weight nature make very ideal for what it is designed to do. It makes a very great travel partner when you are saving weight on baggage and accesses the internet wirelessly. But the best feature of all has to be the price.

The Unix operating system has basically been forgotten. Regaled to the pages of the computer history books, it has garnished very little recognition in the modern world of Windows and Mac. Yet, it was a very essential part of computer history. The Unix is not completely forgotten by those who have become loyalists of the system. After all, it is all in the code. But very few people have taken up the challenge of learning such a flexible but solidly built operating system.

So way back before the conception of Apple, Windows, or even Linux was the Unix system. For the computer world, this system was revolutionary. It brought in a sense of freedom to the computer coding world. The coding was no longer dependent on having specialized hardware for operations. The Unix was a very flexible system which allowed it work with many different types of computer systems. This allowed for use by many different companies which could incorporate it into their business.

The Unix system did a number of things for the computer world which programmers have expanded on and incorporated into their own special designs. The first thing it did was introduce a way to run multiple applications at the same time. This was a new idea since computers were designed to do only one task at one time. The second thing it did was allow other people to use the same system. It opened a world where things could be shared instead of developing new program code each and every time the computer needed to do a new task.

The Unix system has evolved since the 1960s. Many programmers from that era recognize the contribution Unix has made. Its influence is still felt within the computer world. Whether it is Windows, Apple, or Linux, the Unix system will always be known as the one that started it all.

There are many choices when it comes to computers but the need for it to perform a certain job is at the utmost of people’s minds. The needs of the work at home are varied in the services that they provide. As a result, the computer must keep up with the work at home demands. One of the things that work at home individuals demand the most besides software is extreme flexibility in the tasks the computer can perform.

Thus, if the need for this computer is to perform as a home office for work at home jobs, the computer must have a certain specification it must meet. Many companies that hire work at home employees have certain computer requirements such as memory and operating system. If the computer doesn’t pass the computer test, there is no job offer. For someone who needs that job, it can be devastating having a computer that doesn’t measure up.

But like the business world, the work at home field has lots of different types of jobs that computers need to do. It is not just the companies that dictate the requirements but the workers themselves who require their computers to perform certain tasks. For example, work at home personal perform jobs such as customer service, freelance writing, data entry, web designing, virtual assistance, and other different types of things. A computer has to be flexible enough to adapt to many different types of fields.

Sometimes, it is the company that dictates the computer needed. Other times, it is the work at home individual who demand certain specifications. A computer often has the dual role of satisfying both the company and the work at home individuals. So finding the right computer for working at home is all about flexibility, the company needs and your individual needs.

The sales of laptops are outpacing those of the tower. Laptops have made huge leaps in what they can do and what is being offered. Further advances have made them a far more affordable option. With the new range of sizes, you pretty much have one that fits practically everyone. There are lots of reasons why people choose a laptop over a tower system.

First on the list is flexibility. The pick up and go option has always been a favored feature. It has become way more popular since companies have been integrating wireless systems into their restaurants and office buildings. This has provide even more flexibility to owners as they can now conduct business anywhere they can access the internet. Businesses have found this a boom as well. Since customers are now spending more time in their stores which means more sales for them.

Second on the list is the adaptability the laptop has to school, work, or just socializing. A college kid can drag his laptop from noisy roommates to a quiet library. A mom can set up operations so she can see what the kids are doing and then take it down when computer time is over. A dad can surf and chill in front of the television at the same time. Whatever, application the laptop is designated for, it can handle most of it very well.

Finally, the laptop is very appealing in the looks and price department. The sleek design is compact and lightweight. They are easy to take with you. Throw them in a lightweight briefcase with the power cord and you are ready to go. Everything is at your fingertips. Although, they do face a little extra security precautions at the airport. In addition, if you catch the right sale, they can be well worth the price.

A tower system definitely carries a higher price tag than its laptop counterpart. So, it is no surprise that people are drifting toward the laptop for a cheaper alternative. But the tower does have a few advantages over the laptop and with those advantages comes a price tag. If you aren’t looking for a portable computer and are interested in investing for a more long term option, than the tower is definitely an option.

Part of what adds to the tower’s expense is all of the extras that are necessary for operation. This includes a keyboard, monitor, and speakers. Some sales will include a free monitor but it might not be exactly what you want. The monitors can be a very expensive accessory depending on what you want. The flat screen monitor is now more popular and a bigger screen size will cost more. If you look at it, the monitor is a significant percentage of the overall cost,

Another part of the tower’s expense is in the hardware it carries. It can easily handle a lot more memory and bigger RAMs of everything. Thus, while the laptop is limited to a certain amount of upgrades, the tower can be easily upgraded with its multiple slots to keep up with advances in technology. It can last a longer period of time than the laptop due to this extra space.

Finally, the expensive is contained in the software available. While some of the software is pre-loaded, there may be some programs that are still needed. This extra expense of additional software is usually recouped in the price. For a long term service option, the tower will definitely last longer because of its room. But it does carry a higher price tag, when you are choosing between a tower and a laptop.

Relatively few people have ever heard of the Linux’s operating system. It is not a secret. The Linux is open to anyone who wants to use it. It is free to download and there is no paying for a Cd or a product key. It has many programs that work the same as Windows programs. There is no shortage of things to choose from. It even has a professionally designed logo. However, it has no basic marketing plan. It has no big advertising dollars. As a result, very few are aware of its actual existence.

Linux has been around since the late 1990s. It was developed first from a hobby than expanded due to a collaboration. Once it was developed, the Linux was released to the world. From there, many different companies have taken the Linux kernel and have used this system to create all different types of applications. Some big companies have integrated the Linux system into their office computers.

The popularity of Windows is partially due to the fact that Windows is preloaded onto computer systems. Many consumers are very hesitant to switch operating systems or download another. This is more due to a lack of confidence in their computer skills rather than anything else. It also takes extra work and time to install a new operating system. There is also a learning curve associated with the Linux. Only someone with confidence in their skills might tackle such a project.

The other reason Linux is not that well known is that it is relatively obscure as far as advertising goes. No one is spending a dime on advertising an operating system that is not directly connected to a computer. The computer advertising focuses on the computer itself while the operating system is secondary. Thus, the Linux has no real platform for consumers to touch, feel, and try out.

When you have a business, having an Internet presence for it is vital. Your competition will be there, so you want to be there, too. Don’t assume that you don’t need to be online, whatever kind of business you have. Even if you only sell offline, you should still have a website where people can find out about you and how to contact you. Most businesses are also moving into selling online, unless they offer something that can’t be purchased through the Internet. Using social media and SEO skills are two of the best ways in which you can develop an online presence. Even if it takes some time to set up and get going, online recognition is well worth it.

You should also pay close attention to feedback from your customers, so you know what you’re doing right and what you need to change. Survey software can help you with that, because it’s easy to use and your customers will appreciate being asked what they think about your business. If you don’t ever ask them, they assume that you don’t care about them, which is unfortunate. They need to know that they matter to you, and that you appreciate their feedback so that you can make your business better. You don’t need to pour out your heart to them. Just use a simple survey to find out what they like and what they don’t like about the way you do business.

Once you get that information from your customers, it could affect your entire business life. You’ll need to make sure that you’re ready to accept that. Don’t just get the information and sit on it. Customers will want to see changes based on what they had to say. If you weren’t willing to change, why would you have bothered to ask for their opinion?

It can be difficult to find the price difference between a Windows and an Apple at the store. This is because only Apple stores sell Apple computers and everyone else sells Windows. But when you compare the prices online, you are in for a surprise. The Windows computers are cheaper and pack more hardware. You also have the option on most of them to add in more memory or order a custom piece made to your specifications. This is more difficult for the Mac.

While you can order customization for the Mac computer, the simple fact is that the Mac customization is mainly limited to color choices rather than specific hardware options. Windows computers have all sorts of screen sizes available from the tiny Netbook to the 17 inch laptop screen to the additional monitor sizes available for towers. The Apple screens are limited to a few very distinct sizes. But the screen size of Apple computers are limited to a select few sizes.

Another problem with the Apple computers is their lack of upgrades. This means that the RAM amount is set in stone. You can either get the maximum or the minimum. With most Windows system, there are usually a few slots free to add a memory upgrade or upgrade the graphics card. This can be accomplished without affecting the warranty. This is unlike Apple. Upgrading an Apple can mean instant invalidation. Plus, a normal memory card will not work with an Apple system.

The Windows computers have more marketing appeal than Apple. Apple does have its fans though. Many people looking to switch find a certain appeal in the Apple. However, the price for the Apple when compared to Windows is a higher for the same amount of hardware and that is without the upgrades. The Apple is nice but when it comes down to it, the Windows has more options for the same amount of money.

A gaming computer is a fierce machine. Decked out and configured to perform to the max, the gaming computer is almost always a custom creation. All other computers look like expensive paperweights when next to one. The requirements are intense, the extras are many, and a tripped out sound system is all part of the experience. Which is why a tower is so important in a gaming system.

The tower is the key piece of the gaming system. The flexibility and space of the tower allows for maximum customization in graphics and memory. The faster the system operates, the better experience that the gamer has. For gamers, it is all about the experience. All of the ports in the tower are handy for joysticks, game controllers, steering columns, and whatever else is required.

The Windows operating system is necessity. Most new and upcoming games are configured for Window operation. They simply won’t work on the Mac of Linux system due to not being made for those particular system. Mac rarely has the new game releases the Windows can boast of. There is one Windows system that will not work with a gaming computer. Windows Vista has major issues with speed that slow down a graphic intensive game. It is too slow, bogged down, and too packed with features to allow for sleek and smooth operation of games.

The ultimate gaming computer can still operate like a regular computer. But once you pop in a game, it turns from a computer into a gaming experience. The sounds, the light, and the action draw you into the game. However, it is not cheap to create a gaming experience. After all, you are shelling out for the graphic card upgrades, memory upgrades, the sound system, the gaming controllers, and of course, the games.

The newest release of a game is an exciting time for gamers who are always looking for new challenges. Old favorites also have their place in the hearts of some. So when a game is for sale, it always has a list of operating systems attached to it. This particular listing gives the platforms by which the game can be played. If the game operating system and the computer operating system don’t match up, you start running into some serious problems with the game.

The game creators release the game in the most popular operating system. If there is a close proximity between operating system, then the game creators will likely configure the games for both operating systems. This is because the changes are relatively simple. However, with such vastly different operating systems such as the Mac and Windows, the game creators are forced to make major changes to accommodate each system separately. This is why many games that are available for Windows are unavailable for Mac systems. Windows is far more popular and in more households than in that of Mac.

The operating system plays a big role in how the game operates and performs. From the graphics configuration to the sound card, the game needs to access many components of the computer. The wrong operating system means a slow game, hesitant graphics, and little or no sound. More often than not, the game will simply not work or bring up a black screen.

While a game made on an old operating system may work on the new one, it is really going to depend on how old the game actually is. If it was made for Windows XP, then it is probably playable on Windows 7. If it was made for a really old version of Windows, the game may not work. However, a game made for Windows 7 could demand too many systems for it to be playable on Windows XP.

Viruses are a natural hazard of the internet. As a result, all operating systems are prone to them. While some of the advertising centers around an operating system supposed immunity, this is actually a false statement. Those who are computer savvy are well aware of each operating systems weaknesses. But the real reason why one operating system catches more than others comes down to sheer numbers and the ease of which the system can be exploited.

The Windows operating system is well-known for its vulnerability to viruses. The wide spread popularity of the system make it a natural target for viruses. The weaknesses of the system are well-known and are easily exploited by the those who are knowledgeable about it. The release of a virus occurs on a very frequent basis. The sheer number of viruses that can infiltrate a system is mind-boggling. The anti-virus programs are aware of most virus setups but every once in awhile one can sneak through even the best defenses.

The Apple operating system has been advertised to be completely unable to contract viruses. This is simply not the cases. An Apple system can contract an infection. The likelihood of catching a virus is lower due to the very small number of viruses that are released onto the internet. It still can happen with an Apple system, so it is prudent to do a regular scan.

The Linux operating system has its vulnerabilities as well. It is free to anyone who wishes to use it. This freedom means that those who release viruses have easy access to the coding. But again, the likelihood of catching a virus is still very small. There viruses for this system are not nearly prolific enough to be easily caught.

While Windows is definitely the target of most viruses, they can occur in all operating systems.

The Windows operating system is more well-known than the Mac. Although, the Apple has gained popularity more for its phones than computers. Each system does share some common traits. You will find some of the same handy features on both such as the calenders and calculators, along with data/time trackers, and other such useful features. You also have the ability to customize the graphics on both systems. But apart from standard and customization options, the two systems are still infinitely different from each other.

The first big difference most people will notice is the internet browser. For Windows, the default is Windows Explorer. For Apple, it is the Safari. While they share the similar goal of accessing the internet, the browsers are very different in their look and feel. Windows Explorer is still far more familiar to most people and very few have ever heard of Safari. However, this difference can be easily erased by downloading another browser.

Another difference that new Mac users have to adjust to from the Windows system is the placement of many items. Instead of having a start bar, all of the features on the Mac are available at the bottom of the screen. Scroll over to find the stuff you want. This configuration can be changed but those who are used to the start bar in the bottom left will find it a little strange at first. The options to close boxes are also placed on the left hand side for the Mac instead of the right hand side for Windows.

Many of the programs are different as well. Most of the Mac programs come directly from Apple. Which means that the equivalent Windows programs will not work on the Mac. There is also only one real publisher for Apple software and that is Apple.

The Linux operating system is not a well-known product. With Windows and Apple popularity, the Linux system often gets overlooked. This is because the Linux operating system was not created to be a market product. There are no big names behind it. Nor is there an effective marketing campaign. Perhaps, the biggest difference between the Linux, Windows and Apple is that the software is free to use. This means anyone with a computer has access to the Linux programming codes. The free use of this operating system was the whole intent behind Linux.

Linux started out as a hobby by Linus Torvalds. With the help of other developers, the Linux Kernel became the foundation from which Linux’s applications are built upon today. It is the core of the Linux system. Oddly enough, the Linux does have a mascot associated with it. The penguin mascot was designed by Larry Ewing.

Instead of Windows based applications, Linux has a kernel which is the critical component from which the Linux’s applications are built. Many companies have developed programs based on the kernel. The freedom of the Linux system means that creativity has full reign. So, it can be difficult to determine which company has the best Linux application. In essence, they are all different. So it really depends on what programs you need. It also means that what works for Windows or Mac will not work on the Linux system. The operating systems are completely different. It also means that to run Linux-type software, you will need to load and run the Linux operating system.

The relative anonymity of the Linux system means there are far fewer programs than Apple applications or Window products. There are very few games available for the Linux system. However, the biggest advantage it does have going for it is you can get it for free. But for the average user, the Linux operating system is still a complete mystery.

Windows Vista has an enormous amount of features that are available for use. But with all of those features, a price is paid. For the Windows Vista that price is speed. Most people need speed mainly for the internet. When your operating system is slow, it affects everything from running programs to loading web pages. So getting Windows Vista to speed up is a necessary procedure. While you can do the basics such as cleaning the hard drive and uninstalling old programs, there are a few other minor things that will add speed to the Vista system.

The first thing to do is to disable the cool 3-D screen saver graphics. They are pretty and they are cool to watch but they hurt your speed. By picking a more simple screen saver, you free up some space in the processor so that it can run a little bit faster. It might not get you to the cruising speed of Windows 7 but you will pick up a few seconds here and there. You will still need to do a few more things.

Another thing you can do is turn off some of the features. If you don’t use them or need them, then they are taking up room for something else. Windows Vista has quite a few features that can be disabled. This operating system was chalked full of extras with little thought for the space they required. As a result, some speed can be recouped from their disablement. They won’t disappear when disabled and they can be used if needed. But it is better to leave them off.

The thing to keep in mind when speeding up Windows Vista, simple is better. The more simplistic you can make your system, the more speed you will pick up in the long run. In the end, it was the loss of speed that probably hurt Window Vista the most.

Windows XP is an older operating system than Windows 7. Windows Vista was a short-lived operating system and the programmers learned from this mistake. They took many of the features that worked on Windows XP and transferred them to Windows 7 with a few improvements made in the process. As a result, anyone who worked with Windows XP will find a great deal of familiarity between the two operating systems.

The first familiarity is the location of key buttons such as the Start button and tool bar. There is no searching around trying to figure out where things are located. This decision to keep the same location breeds a familiarity between the two systems. New users are unlikely to get lost when going to certain programs or files. The graphics may have changed somewhat, but everything is in its proper place.

The second familiarity of the system is the gadget programs. You will find the clock, the calculator, a few familiar games, the calender, and other useful stuff that Windows XP had. There are also a few new games that you can test out. That go beyond just basic cards. But you will still find these gadgets under the same type of labeling. There is very little change in the labeling making it very easy to find these things on a new computer.

Aside from the many upgrades that Windows 7 offers, it has a very familiar feeling to the Windows XP system. Transitioning is really easy for new users. In fact, the familiarity of Windows 7 is such that you might forget that you have some cool new features to test out. Of course, you won’t forget for very long after a test run. While Windows 7 is fresh and shiny, it still contains reminders of a very good past, the Windows XP.

The Linux operating system is highly popular amongst open source programmers and software engineers, because it packs some of the best features that are required by professionals. One of the greatest downloads that you can get for your Linux operating system is the FileZilla FTP, which allows you to transfer files over a secure network. The best thing about this program is that it is totally free, and can easily be downloaded by anyone who is looking for a secure program that allows him or her to download their favorite programs.

For those who do not know, the FileZilla FTP is one of two programs that are required by users if they wish to download and upload files. One, as mentioned is the FileZilla FTP and the other is the FileZilla server. When running tandem, you can easily download as many files as you like from the FileZilla server, and the download speeds you get would be much higher as compared to what you get on other websites, as it is a direct file transferring program. Because of the ease and feasibility with which this program can be run, it has made it hugely famous and it now ranks as one of the top 5 downloads of the Linux OS, apart from others such as Mozilla Firefox and VLC player. You can easily download this program from its official website, and install the Linux version on your operating system, after which you can use it according to your wishes.

There are two vital ingredients you need before you can install Windows 7 onto your computer. You will need a product key and the software cd prior to beginning the process. Basically, there are three options when comes it comes to the installation. Depending on your set-up and what you want to do, you can start out fresh, update the old, or share with another processing system.

Starting out fresh means formatting your computer so that it can accept the new operating system. It is also important to make certain that you have enough space to handle the new system. Once you have done those two things, pop in the cd. Go to the boot screen and change it so that it will boot up directly from the Cd. After that, a few prompts will show up for you to fill in during the process. The Cd does the rest. It may take some time.

You can also update the old processing system. Basically, the method is the same but it will update your old operating system and replace it. You will still need to check that you have enough room. Also, be aware that some files might not completely transfer during the process. This is usually do to a compatibility issue. It depends on the file on whether it can be fixed or not. You might want to consider backing up your information first.

Finally, you can install Windows 7 as a dual operating system. The memory still has to be available in order for this to work. It has to be free memory and not memory that is tied up in the other operating system. You can use the custom setting if there are things you don’t want to transfer over. If you change your mind, the files can be transferred over later on.

The appeal to purchase a Mac computer is great. Their semi-immunity to viruses and their sleek looks do draw in prospective buyers. Add in the Apple company and it appears that the Mac computer is a sure-fire deal. But does the operating system itself work with what you really need a computer for? That is one very hard question that potential buyers must ask themselves before they purchase one. There are two areas that the Mac computer may not fit too well with.

The first area that requires some thought and not an impulsive buy is will the Mac work with your work computers. In other words, businesses that work strictly online are mostly configured for the Windows operating system. In fact, there are many online businesses that run computer checks before potential employment. These computer checks will not configure well with a Mac computer unless the job happens to be for Apple. So, if you are thinking of applying online, you need to consider the company requirements before you make the purchase.

Another area many don’t think about much is the software the Mac uses. Because the operating system is different from Windows, most of the software that you come across has to specifically applicable to the Mac. However, software developers do not always cater to the Mac system. This means that what is available to the Windows is not always available for the Mac. Popular games, word processing programs, and other software that you might need or use has a specific operating systems listed on the packaging.

The Mac computer has some very nice advantages. Picking a Mac computer does require a little thought to see if it is indeed compatible with your particular needs. Even though it is a popular choice, it may not be the right pick for your individual situation.

A dual operating system can come in very handy at times. However, not many people realize that they can accomplish this on the new computer systems. A dual operating system offers the advantages of both systems without having to use two different computers. There are a few very good reasons why you would need the power to choose between operating systems.

The first reason is for work purposes. There is always that transition that happens when a new operating system is introduced. While the newest computers have it, the old systems are still on the old one. It can take a company awhile to transition from the old system to a new system. This transition sometimes stretches into a few years. Thus a new home computer system may be incompatiable with your work system. Which means that you might not be able to access your work information from your home computer. A lot of companies that utilize home workers have certain requirements including the type of operating system the home computer has. If your home computer has a newer operating system , the computer will not pass the tests.

Another reason why you would want to consider a dual operating system is for games. The game manufacters produce games to fit within the current operating system. When a new one comes up, it can’t always handle the older games. This is because some aspects of the old operating system that the games used have changed in the new one. Usually, you wind up with an error. This is especially true of retro games which are uncompatiable with new graphic or sound settings. It can be very difficult and frustrating to get your favorite games to work on a new system.

A dual operating system grants all of the advantages of both systems. It still gives you the ability to work or play.

The cost of computers has come down dramatically. But many people are still confused about the dramatic price difference between the tower systems, the laptops, and the netbooks. The price difference can be attributed to the system perks that each type of computer offers.

The choice of work computers for many has been the tower. The biggest reason for this is that it has plenty of room for upgrades and attached devices. Companies don’t have the dough to shell out for new computers every year and upgrades in memory are far cheaper to obtain.

The laptop has definitely found a niche as both a work computer and one for home use. Its mobility and wireless systems give it the most flexibility for computers. It is the favored computer for home use and school work. However, there is a limitation on the amount of upgrades it can handle and it is one of the easiest to break. In many cases, breaking one does require replacement. But it is cheaper than the desktop which carries the extra monitor and keyboard components.

The Netbook is probably the cheapest of the internet-ready computer systems. There are severe limitations on what it can handle. You can get away with surfing the net or doing non-graphic intensive types of tasks. The smaller size does mean a smaller price tag. However, you will need an extra hard drive and the number of USB ports is limited.

There really is a computer for every need. It mainly depends on what you are using it for. The desktop can handle many upgrades and a killer sound system has plenty of room. The laptop is mobile, light-weight, and can be used for both work and school. The Netbook is good for tooling around on the internet and has the smallest price tag. The biggest difference between them is their size, complexity, and their use.

Microsoft Windows is without doubt the most popular software among personal computers. Microsoft Windows 95 was the first operating system that received widespread response from personal computer uses and has been spreading in popularity with each new version of windows.

Windows is a graphical user interface based on the Dos environment by Microsoft. Microsoft currently has more than 90% of the personal computer market. It has overtaken Mac OS X in 1990’s. It has releases various version by the name of Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. These operating systems were each improved on top older versions. Microsoft has also released mobile version og windows for smart phones. The most recent version of mobile windows is the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 operating system. It has come a long way from its humble start where the whole operating system was based on an interface manager. This was begun in 1983, but the first Windows i.e windows 1.0 was released in 1985 to a selected few developers who owed operating systems. The next version of Windows the 2.0 was a huge improvement over the older version and solved many problems associated with the version 1.0. The earlier versions were basically just graphical user interfaces that ran above MS-DOS. Then came the serious Windows OS the 386 and the 386 virtual 8086 mode. These operating systems enabled users to multitask numerous MS-DOS programs on top of each other. The introduction of multitasking in Microsoft Windows was a huge step that led to its popularization among developers. After these versions follwed the Windows 3.0 and 3.1 in the early 1990’s. This version saw the introduction of Virtual memory and drivers for hardware devices. These innovations created a new market and helped in standardization of hardware and software.

Linux Mint is a distribution which is a derivative of the Ubuntu Linux and this Linux Mint is claimed to be more user friendly and appealing aesthetically as compared to the other versions of Linux. Many of the Tips and tricks which work on Ubuntu also work on the Linux Mint. Few of the tips and tricks are:

Rebooting of the Gnome, which can be done by pressing Ctrl + Alt + backspace after saving the work and this can be done every few minutes. Restarting the gnome helps avoid rebooting the operating system every time in order for the changes to come into effect. On pressing the above combination of keys the gnome gets restarted and the login screen will appear within minutes without the necessity of rebooting.

When the PC boots up , the username can be automatically logged into in both Ubuntu and Linux Mint, this saves the trouble of entering the username and password every time the system boot up and it also makes it easy in case of remote login to access the VNC server on Linux, which cant be accessed until the user logs in. One can make use of the automatic login option in Linux Mint by going to the Start Button and then to Administration > Login Window and then after entering the password, the automatic login can be enabled by accessing the security tab and selecting automatic login option.

The login screen theme can be changed in Linux Mint by accessing the start button and then administration, login window. In the login window, one can click on the local tab to choose the desired theme among the themes available in the list. The user can also set the custom message using the text bar.

WindowBuilder is open source software that performs company Instantiations. It was acquired by Google few months ago. And after the acquisition of this company, Google started offering the development tools suite for free, these tools are available as extensions of Eclipse and helps in creation of GUI Java applications by offering a designer tool for GUI.

The source code and the IP for these has been donated by Google to the open source community as a part of Eclipse. According to Mike Milinkovich, who is the Executive Director for Eclipse, this donation is a very significant contribution and advantageous for the Java developers who make use of Eclipse. The WindowBuilder offered fills the gap in the Eclipse offering and it is a fast growing popular tool. The java developer’s community is very thankful to Google for making this valuable contribution and The WindowBuilder will be a part of the upcoming Eclipse offerings.
Eclipse is a popular IDE for the development of Java apps and is very flexible and can be used with various other languages as well. This also acts as a base for various applications like Flash Builder, Flash Catalyst etc which are used for the development of Flex and Flasyh applications, Zend Studio which is used for PHP development, Aptana used in web development and many more like RSSowl etc.
CodePro Profile is also included in the code donated by Google and it helps in optimization of the codes and detecting performance related issues. The value of this code is estimated to be around 5 million USD. Few companies have been identified by google to offer support to the enterprise clients by supporting the products commercially in the open source form.

By offering the source code of the most popular GUI development tools for Java to the developers of Open source Java IDE, Google has opened the gates for further improvement in the development of Java apps.

When Google decides to enter a market dominated by giants such as Microsoft and Apple, it has got to make some noise. Google is entering the desktop operating system market with its Chrome based OS. This OS is more specifically meant for netbooks which require finger based inputs and no requirements of keyboard or mouse. This is a Linux based operating system which is creating lots of wave in the tablet market.
Google made the announcement on July 2007 about the browser based operating system. It also announced its entry into the open source software arena with a similar operating system called a Chromium OS which can be downloaded by any one and the source code can be modified. But the Chrome OS on the other Hand will come preinstalled in selected netbooks and tablets which are given a green signal by Google.
Google’s executives believe that people spend most of their time on the internet and netbooks are only meant for browsing the internet. With this belief the designers went on to design the Chrome OS which will have all the minimum requirements of an operating system. A browser will be the central user interface in the operating system along with other basics such as a media player, paint, image viewer, editor, pdf reader, etc. Designers will be allowed to create softwares for this OS and a Chrome market place that will sell these softwares to Chrome OS users. Google is making this OS so simple that it is not even considering a Technical assistance centre to assist its users about problems that will arise from this OS. This operating system is scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2011 or whenever Google feels like it. Many major netbook manufacturers have put their trust in Google’s new Chrome Operating system.

The first notebook with the Google chrome OS is Cr-48 which is not in a production phase right now but a prototype has been displayed recently in order to provide insight into the new google chrome OS packed with many features. The prototype was designed by a Taiwanese firm called Inventec. Chrome based net books will be out in the market soon and it will be manufactured by Acer and Samsung. These will be both Wi-Fi and 3G with a 12.1 inch screen and they will come with Verizon connection. Verizon is going to offer 100 Mb data free to the users.
The device labeled as Cr-48 chrome with a black Matte plastic which comes with a keyboard with isolated keys along with a search button which is placed in the center similar to that of android devices. Cr-48 doesn’t have a caps lock key on its keypad. It has a track pad which shares that few of the characteristics with that of the Mac book and has Multi touch sensitivity which will allow using two or more fingers to scroll at the same time. It comes with a micro SD slot, a single USB port and a built in webcam.
It has a power button at the upper right side of the keyboard. The CR-48 boots up very fast as it has a flash memory and not many stuff loaded in it software wise. The Google password will be the user password for this system and it is as good as a extension of the users Google account. The whole system is based on the chrome browser with a blank chrome page as the home screen and it also has the other applications like Google maps, Gmail, Youtube etc. and got a quick access to chrome app store. It is swift while browsing and switching the applications and it is going to be priced low.

Lenovo has come out with a low end laptop which is rich in features and has all that is required by the businessmen and executives. Lenovo ideapad G560 is the machine which comes at a affordable price and it comes with many special features like eSATA and HDMI ports, with special multimedia buttons, glassy surface. This notebook comes with the basic multimedia features.

This laptop comes at an affordable price with one touch recovery option and an added biometric login. Along with those positive things, this laptop also comes with its share of weak points when it comes to performance and key spacing. It does not have a dedicated video card.

Compared to the other predecessors of Ideapad, G560 has a classy look and has undergone some changes. It comes with a black glossy look. The keys have a glossy black finish. The screen bezel has
4 buttons each on the top and bottom which gives it an antique look and it weighs about 2.63 kg. In comparison to the older models there is a lot of changes in the capslock, numlock indicators, There are mute, video recording buttons and volume buttons are placed at the top of the keypad along with led indicators, wi-fi switch, memory card reader and many more. The touchpad has a scrollbar function integrated into it and that helps in efficient and quick navigation making internet browsing a different experience. The layout of the keypad makes it uncomfortable for typing due to the cramped spacing and it leads to many incorrect entries while typing. Performance wise, this model is way better than its predecessor models but in terms of multimedia experience when it comes to movies and games, it is not a good performer. This makes this laptop suitable only for business needs and a disappointment for people looking for entertainment notebooks.

Apple Mac Book air is a super slim notebook with an aluminum chassis, great aesthetics, a sleek lightweight machine with a great styling but when it comes to its processing power, it is an air head having less processing power even though it can handle all the basic functions of a notebook which generally includes working on documents , accessing internet and using the basic multimedia functions, but when compared with the price factor and the processing power, Mac Book Air does not score good points.
Mac Book Air comes with two screen sizes, 11 inches and 13 inches. The body of Air is metallic with curves at the right places and it is also slim. The LED backlighting makes the lid slim .Air comes with a multi touch trackpad which is very necessary for a notebook. The track pad on Air is better than that of any windows notebooks when it comes to its accuracy and response. The image editing software needs to be improved. Air shares the keypad with Mac book pro with the size and layout of the keys. The keypad is more user friendly but unfortunately the keys are not backlit unlike the ones in Mac book Pro, which makes it hard while working in dim lit environments.
The screen got a resolution of 1440X900 pixels, but the quality of the panel is poor and Air misses the optical drive. The functionality of the notebook has gone for a toss as Apple has focused more on the aesthetic qualities of the device. Apple has avoided using more moving parts and lighting features in Air in order to reduce the power consumption and increase the efficiency. But this has led to a reduction in the functionality of the notebook for a great extent.
The 11 inch ones look more attractive and compact because of their smaller size compared to the standard 13 inch ones.

Mozilla has come out with a beta 8 version of the Firefox 4 soon after the previous beta 7 version was declared feature complete. The new beta 8 version comes with a variety of new significant changes. Mozilla’s new UI for the Linux platforms is included in this which makes the Linux users welcome the new beta 8 version. The Firefox button is being provided in place of the traditional menu and it has to be turned on by the user as it does not turn on by default.
In Linux, the tabs will be put on the same line alongside the Firefox button, which is still not the case with the Windows UI. Mozilla is working to implement the same feature for the Windows version as well. The Firefox UI will be sharing a lot in terms of appearance with the Opera browser. For people making use of the Firefox sync facility, Mozilla has worked a lot on improving their experience. A new mechanism is developed which will automatically generate a secure key for the user and by doing so it spares the user from requiring remembering both the synchronization key and the password together. This has been already incorporated with the Sync 1.6 for the current Firefox versions.
The Firefox add-on manager has been updates to the latest final styling having different visuals for signifying the status of different add on. The navigation bar in the add on manager tab has been removed as it is of no use. There is an important usability update along with the Firefox beta 8 which is the window modal JavaScript alerts instead of the content modal type, meaning that the alerts generated by a page will not cause any hindrance in switching tabs or interacting with any other part of the browser.
Beta 8 is one of the biggest Firefox updates and hopefully it will revive Firefox as the present Firefox 3.6 is outdated.

Logitech has come out with a new gaming keyboard, G19 which is one costly piece of hardware which makes use of the software installed in the system to perform its magic. The special functions of this device can be utilized only in the systems which have the required drivers installed; otherwise it will just be a normal keyboard. This keyboard comes with a inbuilt Liquid Crystal Display and the Macro keys are programmable on the fly. Even the back light colors can be changed, comes with a very good software interface and supports Windows Slideshow. But sadly this device does not work on Linux and no special functions without the drivers and the LCD is underutilized due to the limited support in the games.
The keyboard comes with an adapter for the extra power, which is the first of the kind. G19 display is somewhat similar to the one in G510, but a color display unlike that of G510 which has a monochromatic display. The quality of the keyboard is nice with ample spacing between the keys , making it comfortable to use. Even the feel and the finish of the keyboard is nice making it a great typing and gaming experience. The back lights are not properly aligned for some keys, especially the “Tab” and “Caps Lock” keys, which makes it a bit sparsely illuminated compared to the other remaining keys. The keyboard is large compared to the normal conventional keyboards with the spacing between the keys more than that of the standard spacing and it has 2 extra columns of Macro keys which can be programmed for any particular function of choice, these keys are named G1 till G12 with 3 different modes thereby making 36 combinations possible. The windows key can be turned on or off thereby preventing the game window from closing when pressed accidentally.

Dell has come out with a new Alienware laptop M15X. The High performance range of desktops and laptops are manufactured under the label of Alienware by Dell. The Alienware system comes with a great hardware and complimenting design as well. The designs are unique compared to those offered by other companies. The laptops have a futuristic look and features. It comes with customizable lighting, a dedicated graphics card and face recognition software. M15X is targeted towards gamers.
Few of the pros of M15X are its looks, performance ability and build quality. And under the cons column falls its price tag and its inability to support DX11 or USB 3.0. M15X is a true performer which comes with a Intel Core i7 X940 processor having 4 cores and 8 threads with speeds ranging from 2.13 GHz to 3.33 GHz in turbo mode. It also has 1Gb Nvidia GTX 260M graphics card, 6GB DDR3 1333 MHz RAM which makes it a hardcore gaming device when combined with the 15.6 inch LED backlit HD display. Alienware M15X weighs 4kgs and it is more of a mobile desktop than a laptop. Watching HD movies and playing games on this machine is a different experience and its performance is impressive. The M15X passed the battery of tests with flying colors with a 3D Mark 06 score of 12161 and the processing performance when it comes to compressing and decompressing files and data transfer is impressive. It comes with a 500GB 7200 RPM hard drive without RAID. The speakers come with customizable lighting but its performance is not as good as expected. The laptop is ergonomically designed with 2 intake fans at the bottom and exhaust vents to the rear to cool the CPU and the GPU. It is powered by a 9 cell battery which also provides an extra elevation improving the airflow.

Google had first come out with a tool which enabled the users without any programming knowledge to create android applications and it was made available to the users who signs up for it. But now Google has decided to allow all the Google account holders to access this tool known as AppInventer. People can gain access to AppInventer by logging into the Google account and accessing Google Labs. This AppInventer makes it easy for people to create the Android applications depending upon their requirements as well.
The AppInventer is an online tool used to create Android applications and this is a browser based tool. By using this, the users can just drag and drop the components in order to create the UI for the Android application created by him. It works almost similar to the way any other GUI creating applications like Visual Studio or the QtCreator works, but in the AppInventer, even the programming of the Android application will be done visually very unlike the other GUI creation application. The components that are added into the AppInventer design interface can be interconnected and the functionality of the application can be programmed by using Blocks Editor which is made possible by the Java application in the AppInventer which does not run in the browser. Google has been constantly adding lots of blocks and a variety of features into the AppInventer constantly.
AppInventer can also be connected directly to the Android phones in order to debug the applications from the phone. If the Android Software Development Kit (SDK) is installed in the system, then the applications can be tested on it and debug it using the Android running on the VM without using an Android phone. Now with this AppInventer available to all users , we can expect a rise in the variety of Android applications in the near future.

AIR 2.5 is the most recent version of the Adobe runtime and it has been officially launched by Adobe recently. Upon the launch, Adobe is trying to bring this AIR 2.5 into multiple screens just like the way it did to Adobe Flash when the Flash 10.1 was released.
Adobe’s AIR 2.5 runtime is already made available to the Android platform and it is expected to be made available for the Blackberry tablet soon enough. Adobe AIR is used for developing various applications and these applications installs and works like just any other application on the mobile devices and these applications are also made available in the app market for the respective platforms. The user will be automatically directed to download and install the AIR runtime from the market when the user tries to install an AIR application for the first time on his device. Adobe is working with the device OEMs to have the runtime preinstalled on all the compatible devices (phones).
With the launch of AIR 2.5 many more features have been added to the list such as image and video capture, access to microphone, native browser embedding support within the AIR window and many more which are most commonly used in the Android phones. These features will be added into the iPhone packager tools as well.
It is not only the mobile version of Adobe AIR that is being upgraded and loaded with features, even the desktop version has got a lot of improvements, especially the browser component of AIR. The earlier WebKit component for the browsers in AIR did not support the features like shadow and font support which has been included now thereby allowing the developers to create richer AIR applications using HTML. AIR is also made available for TVs like Google TV. Samsung and Adobe has entered into a collaboration to include AIR in the Samsung Apps platform allowing purchase of AIR applications through TVs and BluRay players.

Windows 95 was a far better version of windows than the earlier versions of Windows which were just work in progress. The Windows 95 was given a codename Chicago and was going to be named as Windows 4.0. This operating system integrated Microsoft’s earlier operating system, MS Dos into it. The most important improvement in this operating system was the ease of use which was far cry better than any other operating system at this time. The installation was simple because of the development of Pentium CPU’s by Intel which were designed based on the specifications of Microsoft.

One of the biggest improvements in Windows 95 was the graphical user interface. This user interface was designed to aid plug and play features that helped other hardware’s improvements to be made. The earlier introduction of drivers was a huge addition which made huge difference with the improved graphical user interface. The architecture was also upgraded from 16 bit to a advanced 32 bit computing architecture that helped in better graphics.

This was very successful form the sales point of perspective with both businesses and individual users making a beeline for these operating systems. This was the only time that Apple computers started to feel the need of a similar operating system that can be installed to individual as well and for business use. Microsoft continues its success in operating systems with the launch of Windows 98. This was the second release in the 9x family and was the first release which used the Windows Driver model. Thought this was not readily accepted, it was later on adopted at a large scale everywhere. This was the longest running operating system for Microsoft. It also included Accelerated Graphics which gave gaming a boost on personal computers. These few features and many other features were responsible for the increasing popularity of Window’s operating System.

One great example of an FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) is the Linux kernel that is employed by the Linux family of operating systems. It is released under the purview of GPLv2 (GNU General Public License version 2) and is generated by contributors all over the world. You will notice in the mailing list of Linux kernel that every day development takes place on it. The Linux kernel was the brainchild of Linus Torvalds, a computer science student from Finland. Since its development in 1991, it has added countless developers and users. They took the help of other free software projects to adopt codes for use in the newly conceived operating system. Thousands of programmers have voluntarily contributed to the Linux kernel. Based on it, there are a number of Linux distributions that have been released.

Kernel detects an unrecoverable system error in Linux, known as a “panic” which is very different from other equivalent errors identified by user space code. Kernel code can indicate this condition by calling on the panic function that is situated in the “sys/system.h” header file. However most of the panic errors results due to unhandled processor exceptions present in the kernel code, such as indications to null memory addresses. These are generally symptomatic of a bug present in the call chain that finally leads to the panic. It can also be an indication of hardware failure like a failed RAM cell or arithmetic functional errors in the processor that can be prompted by a processor bug, a soft error or an overheated processor. Any report of a bug present in the Linux kernel is known as an “OOPS”. It is typically collected in an automatic fashion by kerneloops software. These reports of malfunctioning and troubleshooting are collected and published on the website: kerneloops.org.

Ubuntu is one of the largest used operating systems that are based on Debian and Linux distributions. This is distributed to anyone who require the need of a operating system but does not want to pay the huge licensing fees to big software giants. This is one of the largest used operating systems after Windows and Mac OS. It has more than 12 million registered users worldwide who assist in its further development and make the Ubuntu experience better for everyone. There are three versions of Ubuntu. One version is designed specifically for desktops which was the first one to be introduced. Later on a version for servers was developed which had a major difference from other server software manufacturers who charge a hefty amount for simple software that is supposed to be given free of cost. Hence Ubuntu released its server version to help the millions of developers save thousands of dollars. Then there is the latest one is the version designed specifically for Netbooks. This is designed to be touch friendly and to be easily used in tablets too. Ubuntu is sponsored by the Canonical Ltd which is a non-profit organization based in United Kingdom. Canonical generates revenue by selling patents and technical support that is tied along with Ubuntu.
The Ububtu team wanted to design a operating system that is easy to use and keeps improving every six months. The first version of Ubuntu saw the light of the day in 2004. From this time onwards there have been constant updates every six months. The current LTS realease is the Lucid Lynx or Ubuntu version 10.10. A Long tern support version is released every fourth release. Softwares used by Ubuntu are based on Debian’s unstable branch, although both Debian and Ubuntu are not binary compatible, their softwares have to be built from scratch.

Mac OS X is an operating system made especially for computers manufactured by Apple Inc. The operating system is also designed by Apple. Mac OS X is basically a set of Unix based operating systems that are bound together to each other with a graphical user interface. These graphical user interfaces are marketed and developed specifically by Apple. All new Macintosh computer units come with pre installed versions of Mac OS X. There have been many versions of Mac OS X since its continuous release in 2002.
Mac OS X is just a Unix based operating system that was developed by technologies developed by NeXt. From the release of Mac OS X x 10.5, Leopard, which run on Intel based computers, Apple has obtained Uniz )# certification. The first version was released in 1999 which was meant only for severs. The desktop version was released in 2001 with the code name Cheetah. All releases are given named after big cats. Like Snow leopard, Tiger, and etc. Both the desktop and the server versions of Mac OS X are similar and give access to network services. Apple since 2007 has begun releasing a mobile version of its Mac OS X for use in its smartphones, music players, tablets and TV streamers.
Mac OS X is based on Mach Kernel based unix. Parts from FreeBDS and Net BDS that were borrowed by NeXT from Unix are still found in today’s Mac OS X versions. NeCTStep was similar to DOS in Windows and it was an object oriented operating system that Steve jobs himself developed for his company NeXt in 1985. After a lot of failures, the Apple manufacturers were successful in creating a stable version of operating system. This version was incidentally the tenth try by the company, hence the roman numeral X for ten has been stuck along with the name since its first release in Mac OS X.

Linux is a name given to universal operating systems that are Unix like in nature and use the Linux Kernel. These operating systems are represented by a happy penguin, hence the next time you see a penguin associated with an operating system, it is definitely a Linux based operating system. The specialty about Linux based Operating systems is that they can be installed virtually in any computer or even a cellphones. Linux has been successfully installed din supercomputers, tablets, computers, smartphones, and video game consoles. This flexibility and scalability is the reason Linux is so popular among every software designer and even among hackers. Some of the world’s largest and the most number of servers run on Linux based operating systems. Nay development of Linux is under the free and open source software collaboration and will involve no profit sharing for selling the right of these softwares to another person. All code can be used freely and modified. The modified code can also be submitted to the community to be included into the free and open source software. They will be covered under the GNU or General Public License. Some of the most popular linux distributions include Debian, Fedeora, Redhat and openSuse. These are all available freely to download and use for any kind of further development.
Linux was originally developed by Linus Torvalds in 1991. The name Linux comes from his name. The first basis of the GNU began with the development of libraries by Richard Stallman. These have formed the basis of the Free software foundation. Linux has been instrumental in many technological developments. The internet could not have been what it is today without the aid of Linux. Agreed that Windows made it popular, it was Linux which gave internet its form. Without Linux you wouldn’t have been reading this article which is based on a server which runs of a Linux operating system.

Red Hat is among the world’s largest Linux OS after Ubuntu. It is a free and open source software the is developed under the GNU license. The software belongs to the Red Hat Inc. which supports further developments in this distribution.
Red Hat is mostly used by developers to develop enterprising software. It is more famous for this software the Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This is based on the JBoss software which was acquired by Red Hat. Red hat provided customers with applications, middleware, operating system platforms and other management products besides Red Hat Enterprise Linux. From the year 2009, Red Hat has been the largest corporate contributor to the GNU/Linux open source Kernel. It still continuous to create and contribute to the software projects in their area along with a few proprietary softwares that are sold by the company to make profits.
Red Hat Inc. was formed in 1993 in the name of ACC corporation. Its sole business was to catalog various businesses and sell Unix and Linux accessories. After this the founder Bob Young briught a linux operating system known as Red Hat Linux from its developer Marc Ewing. This linux was also called as the Halloween release because of its timing. On august 1999 it went on to offer an IPO which became the 8th largest gain in stock markets. The Red Hat company also sponsors the Fedora project that is another open source project that is supported by the community. The aim of fedora is to gain rapid progress in the open source software area. Fedeora and Rd Hat are both similar softwares that are used by software developers the world over and are trusted because of their reliability and security that is unparalleled to any other operating system in the market. It has a dedicated fan following which keeps it going.

There are numerous reasons that people opt for linux based operating systems instead of the more flash and well publicized operating systems such as Windows and Mac OS X. The ease of use, the flexibility, the number of free softwares and the software repository. These few attributes are just a beginning to a huge list of advantages that Linux based systems have over other. But when a first time user decides on going for a Linux based operating system, he is poured with so many choices, that making one choice becomes increasingly tough. But the choice of one linux distro does not mean another person will like it too. Tastes change with requirement with the particular distribution. Hence look at the below distros that are set according to the level of sophistication required to use them.
Ubuntu is the most user friendly linux based operating system that can be found. Ubuntu is single handedly increasing the knowledge about Linux throughout the world. It is creating new Linux fans where ever it goes. This is a magic operating system that can install itself in any hardware. Its minimum requirements are minimum and there is no problem with compatibility, configuration and installation of softwares thereof.
Fedora is another easy to use distro that is loved by many developers for its blazing fast speeds and its simple architecture. It has many features similar to that of Ubuntu which include great hardware support and refined desktop. It is developed by the same people who have developed Red Hat and hence it is loved by all linux fanatics around the world. The problem with this OS is that if you want to run MP3, AVI and PDF files, you will not be able to run them because of unavailability of software that can be installed in this OS> But there are many open source alternatives that you can opt for instead of these.

SUSE Linux is a Linux based operating system for computers which is based on the Linux Kernel which is open source. This operating system is distributed and upgraded by Novell Inc. SUSE Linux took it birth in Germany by a developer named as Rolan Dyroff, Surchard Steinbildm Thomas Fehr and Hubert Mantel. It was earlier known as Gesellschaft für Software und Systement wicklung mbH. But its further development took place in Europe where it has become what it is today. The first version of SUSE was released in 1994. This makes SUSE older than all the other commercial linux distributions.

Novell Ince purchases SuSE in 2003, to further develop it. Novell has been a big contributor to the open invention network. This acquisition gave Novell a community dedicated to the development of SUSE Linux. Novell has since releases openSUSE Project, openSUSE Enterprise edition and openSUSE distribution. Novell acquire SuSE Linux to effectively reach its audience. It also released SuSE Linux Enterprise Server edition to be used for Servers. The openSUSE source project is meant to develop software that is a part fo the open source network. The SUSE Linux version 10.0 was a fruit of this effort which offered developers to test the operating system and give their thougths about the further developments. Since then all versions of SUSE Linux have been given to the open source community for testing. The differentiating part about SUSE Linux from other Linux distributions is that instead of the GNOME desktop, SUSE uses the KDE environment. The recent purchase of Novell by Attachmate in 2010 meant that all the openSUSE distributions now belong to Attachmate. Attachmate has plans to spin off SUSE on it own and create a whole new business from it. It will however to change the long standing relationship between openSUSE and the new SUSE business.
